Dario Fo

We are very saddened to hear of the death of Dario Fo, and our thoughts are with his family and friends. He has inspired several generations of theatre makers and activists and we have been proud to work alongside him on Dancing with Colours, Whipping with Words in celebration of his life and work.

The world has lost a brilliant man, a superlative theatre-maker and provocateur.  Dario’s commitment to his work and his determination to challenge and satirise authority throughout his life were truly outstanding and inspirational; at the age of 90 he was only prevented from appearing on stage at the Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh last week by his recent hospitalisation. We look forward to seeing today’s theatre-makers continue his legacy.

Dario Fo and Political Theatre in Scotland

Thursday 13 October 6pm, Traverse Theatre

This panel discussion will be chaired by Olga Taxidou, Professor of Drama at the University of Edinburgh.  The panel comprises playwright Peter Arnott, Professor Federica Pedriali, Head of Italian at the University of Edinburgh and Dr Linda Mackenney, Head of English at George Watson’s School and writer on Scottish popular theatre.  They were to have been joined by David Greig, Artistic Director of the Lyceum; sadly he can’t now make it but we still look forward to a stimulating discussion on the relationships between the theatre of Dario Fo and the traditions of radical political theatre in Scotland.
